Voters in Carbondale have turned down the proposed Village at Crystal River development by a nearly 2-1 margin. The Glenwood Post says a group called Locals for Smarter Growth led the charge. Some say the VCR proposal was sunk by a 1% public improvements fee assessed on the sale of retail goods at the VCR. The developer said the pIF was need to generate income for making improvements on the property along Highway 133.
